JOB SUMMARY:
The Manager, Mobile Solution Engineering & Operations is a key engineering and leadership role responsible for front-end applications leveraging mobile technologies at Universal Destinations & Experiences. This individual leads a team of talented technologists to design, develop, deploy, and support critical front-end applications globally, including mobile applications supporting Universal’s parks in Orlando, Hollywood, and Japan, as well as other future front-end experiences. This role is focused on delivery and support of quality, high-end, best-in-class experiences for our guests and business partners.
This role along with their team, will be responsible for front-end software engineering solutions using Flutter and other new consumer facing technologies; and will be a thought leader for modular design, software reusability, empowerment of our business partners, and release integrity. Partners with other Digital Technology groups, Corporate Technology, Infrastructure, Security, Product, Innovation, PMO; business divisions; functional support partners like Finance, Sourcing, and HR. This position is focused on innovation, design and development of new digital experiences based on existing physical theme park experiences and launching new businesses in both physical and virtual spaces.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technology Strategy & Delivery
- Manage day-to-day activities in support of global mobile team and front-end engineering strategy, design, development for UDX Digital and Technology.
- Oversee the implementation of simple, scalable, flexible, secure, and cost-effective technology design & engineering.
- Leads technical development team for digital and guest / customer interfacing applications including but not limited to the Universal flagship mobile apps in Orlando, Hollywood, and Japan.
- Proactively manage a mixture of internal resources and external partners to achieve both best in class technology solutions while achieving speed to market.
- Acts as key subject matter expert in the rapidly evolving digital technology arena including all forms of mobile engineering, and client/server architecture.
- Oversees the day-to-day incorporation of high-quality automation of processes, develops, quality engineering, and release management, cloud into every-day work.
Cross-Team Collaboration, Team Culture, Staff Development
- Lead and mentor direct reports/team members in day-to-day management and administration of UDX digital transformation.
- Work with executive leadership in providing clear decisions along with their implementation. Coach and build confidence in staff to make and implement good technical and business decisions using technology and analytical thinking.
- Promote working culture of accountability and technology depth to support Universal’s physical and virtual business aspirations.
- Support and champion Universal Culture of team-member satisfaction through effective communication, planning, risk management, and coaching of high-potential candidates.
- Work seamlessly with other Digital and Technology & teams and leaders to architect and build best in class solutions and experiences.
Platform Stability & Operational/Delivery Excellence
- Ensures achievement of consistently high platform reliability and uptime of digital technology solutions to ensure superior “Digital Show Quality” for Universal’s digital solutions.
- Drive focus on operational excellence throughout the organization & partners, including (but not limited to) processes, governance, efficient working approaches, collaboration.
- Ensure positive trend in key performance indicators of the digital platform. Partner with PMO & Product for on-time delivery of solutions, proactively mitigate risk of “scope creep” and business impact during transformational change.
Administrative
- Manage appropriate departmental budgets; review/approve related budget expenditures with “act as an owner” mentality.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree is required and preferably in a technical field.
EXPERIENCE:
- 7+ years in progressive technology & software engineering required.
- 3+ years’ experience leading digital, mobile, custom software engineering; proven success engineering consumer mobile experiences in a tourism/entertainment industry.
