JOB SUMMARY:
The Supervisor, Operational Alignment & Compliance - Safety & Design is responsible for supporting the development of and sustaining various OAC – Safety & Design programs, including compliance, documentation, verification, and harmonization of attraction safety requirements at all Universal Destinations & Experiences globally. Works closely with the Senior Manager, OAC, supporting consistency and compliance initiatives between UDX destinations including between UDX Legal/OAC, Operations, Technical Services, EHS, Safety & Engineering, and various Universal Creative Core & project teams. Reviews and approves attraction ridership requirements while ensuring compliance with UDX standards and applicable laws and regulations. Supports implementation and auditing of UDX standards, including the Owner/Operator’s Project Requirements for all projects.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee initiatives that drive consistency of ride safety and communication between UDX properties globally:
- Implement and sustain UDX policies and procedures as it relates to consistent ride safety and supporting materials
- Review all materials relating to UDX attraction safety, including Guest ride requirements, safety signage, and manufacturer materials to ensure compliance with internal and external standards
- Draft and review attraction ride requirements and media of said ride requirements as outlined in the UDX Attraction Ride Requirements Global Policy. Supports the request and approval process for ride requirements media. Serves as backup for approval of this media on behalf of OAC as assigned.
- Identify park-specific SMEs, driving discussion and consensus between all parties while ensuring compliance with UDX/AHJ standards.
- Sustain OAC – Safety & Design Ride Safety Programs and Systems:
- Maintains OAC electronic standards and procedures indices and accompanying detailed information to include appropriate linking to other external documents, as well as the Attraction Information Database (AID).
- Reviews and maintains documents which support the ongoing review and update of existing ride requirement media.
- Performs audits of associated media and channels to ensure consistency between all posted information and internal and external standards and requirements.
- Partners with teams across UDX to support these reviews and updates such as Compliance, Accessibility, Marketing, Technical Services, Attractions Operations, Universal Creative, etc.
- Partners with UDX Parks Technology on administrating OAC systems, managing system access to both internal and 3rd party vendors, and system maintenance / upgrade cycles as required.
- Conducts training for project and operational teams on processes and implementation.
- Projects:
- Assist department leadership by leading and completing projects as assigned from start through completion.
- Ensure compliance and understanding of UDX policies and procedures, including reviewing attraction manufacturer O&M manuals to ensure consistent ride requirements between like-attractions and UDX standards.
- Perform facility audits and inspections to ensure adherence to standards, specifications, and procedures
- Provide feedback to project teams and manufacturer as needed.
- Provide support for New Ventures projects.
- Collaboration and Development:
- Maintain a working knowledge of other OAC systems and programs to ensure department support and collaboration. Collaborates with the other areas of the OAC – Safety & Design team as well as the OAC – Standards & Procedures arena and programs when applicable.
- Provides leadership, support, and feedback to the OAC Safety & Design Interns. Provides regular feedback and identifying opportunities for growth.
- Creates and executes department TSAT initiatives, including creating team development events and activities.
- Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Technical school is preferred;
- Associate degree (AA) is preferred – any technical design or architectural field AND/OR technical writing.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years of theme park technical and/or operations experience required, including 3+ years technical writing experience.
- 2+ years supervisory experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Theme Park development experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Significant technical writing and editorial ability, particularly as it relates to the themed entertainment industry
- Proficient in all components that are required to institute document sharing, internal linking of subsections and computation components
- Project management skills to coordinate competing priorities and deadlines into timely and effective results.
- Familiarity with theme park functions and operations.
- Proficiency or familiarity with MS SharePoint and MS Office products, including PowerPoint, Visio, and Access.
- Preferred to be familiar with the use of AutoCAD Architecture, Adobe InDesign, Power Automate, and Power BI.
- Should have familiarity with reading/interpreting architectural drawings and diagrams.
- Should have a working knowledge of technical terms as they relate to facility maintenance activities, some architectural and engineering activities, general design activities, and certain theme park design and operations activities.
- Ability to lead with tact and diplomacy in achieving consensus decisions between each of the UDX facilities with the SOP and OPR process.
- Ability to influence outcomes in an expeditious manner.

- This position also works with all levels of management within the Universal Destinations & Experiences organization up to, and including, senior leadership (both US and non-US-based). It routinely makes recommendations that will have a direct effect on corporate liability and brand throughout the UDX park system.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
