Universal Horror Unleashed is a terrifyingly unique experience that will bring haunts to Las Vegas year-round. Located at Area 15 is the heart of horror – we would love to have you haunting alongside us! With the nature of this experience comes a unique working environment. You will find yourself working in dark environments around special effects including strobe lights, fog, artificial smells, and more. The working hours will be unique, typically spanning over late evenings/nights and weekends (holidays included). JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for the fabrication and finishing of special effects, distressing, aging, and painting of costumes and accessories in accordance with the creative intent and integrity of the approved costume design and character look at Universal Horror Unleashed. Partners within the Costume team or works independently on the fabrication and finishing of costumes and accessories. Maintains direct and thorough communication with Costume leadership of any necessary information, projects status updates, issues and/or milestones.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Translates drawings and designs through various techniques including fabrication, finishing, distressing, aging, dying, and painting for costumes, shoes, hats, and accessories and maintain special effects costumes and creatures that may require paint, silicone, latex, and fur.
- Attends and performs fittings, makes costume adjustments, and notates changes per Costume leadership authorization. Skillfully alters costumes to align with fitting notes and ensures their stage readiness and alignment with Universal costume quality and standards.
- Maintains equipment and supplies for Costume department. Researches sources and vendors in partnership with Costume leadership for both requested and standard use equipment and supplies for the purchasing of department needs.
- Assists with setting up and implementing procedures for new shows, events, and characters to facilitate their execution and daily maintenance.
- Work in partnership with leadership and Stitchers as well as the documenting procedures and supplies that are used to achieve the finished product.
- Maintains the highest levels of cleanliness and sanitation of supplies and organization of the work areas by assuring that all containers are labeled and stored according to MSDS and NFPA standards.
- Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Some work may require contact with latex, wool, fur, and other allergens.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities (KSAs) required.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of, but not limited to, working with various distressing, aging, dying, and painting techniques and products.
- Extensive knowledge of fabrics, textiles, and fibers as well as their clean and care methods.
- Ability to identify and match colors.
- Must be able to work a flexible and varying schedule based on business demands.
- Ability to provide strong customer service skills.
- Strong communication skills, highly organized, and able to prioritize numerous tasks.
- Must be able to work well under pressure and adapt to changes quickly.

- Consistent attendance is a job requirement.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Nevada state certifications are required, including OSHA 10 certification.
EDUCATION
- Associates, Technical School, or Bachelor’s degree in Costume is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- 4+ years of experience in special effects costuming in theatre, film or television; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
