JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Manager, Mobile Solution Engineering & Operations is a key engineering and leadership role responsible for front-end applications leveraging mobile technologies at Universal Destinations & Experiences. This individual may lead not only individual contributors but also other leaders (i.e., Supervisors, and Managers) with a strong background in design, develop, deployment, and support of critical guest facing front-end applications globally, including mobile applications supporting Universal’s parks in Orlando, Hollywood, and Japan, as well as other future front-end experiences. This role is focused on leadership in diversity, building positive relationships throughout the company and their team, delivery, innovation, problem solving and support of quality, and, best-in-class experiences for our guests and team members.

This role along with their team and other potential leaders, will be responsible for front-end software engineering solutions using Flutter and other consumer facing technologies; and will be a thought leader for modular design, software reusability, empowerment of our business partners, and release / operational integrity. Partners with Leadership, other Digital Technology groups, Corporate Technology, Infrastructure, Security, Product, Innovation, PMO; business divisions; functional support partners like Finance, Sourcing, and HR. This position has a strong focus on innovation, problem solving, design and development of new digital experiences based on existing physical theme park experiences and launching new businesses in both physical and virtual spaces. Has an engineering mindset working with both our business and technology partners thinking 3 – 5 years into the future to ensure supportability, maintainability, and extensibility.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Technology Strategy & Delivery

  • Manage in collaboration with other leaders, day-to-day activities in support of global mobile team and front-end engineering strategy, design, development with a big picture vision beyond the mobile space. Understanding that technology organizations can only be successful together.
  • Oversee and encourage other leaders, and individual contributors to implement simple, scalable, flexible, secure, and cost-effective technology design & engineering.
  • Demonstrates an engineering mindset thinking how to best build solutions that stand the test of time and can easily be maintained, reused, and extended as business and guest needs evolve.
  • Proactively manage a mixture of internal resources and external partners to achieve both best in class technology solutions while achieving speed to market.
  • Achieve consistently high platform reliability and uptime of newly developed digital technology solutions to ensure superior “Digital Show Quality” for the Guest and Team Member experience.Oversees the day-to-day incorporation of high-quality automation of processes, develops, quality engineering, and release management, cloud into every-day work.

Platform Stability & Operational/Delivery Excellence

  • Ensures achievement of consistently high platform reliability and uptime of digital technology solutions to ensure superior “Digital Show Quality” for Universal’s digital solutions.
  • Drive focus on operational excellence throughout the organization & partners, including (but not limited to) processes, governance, efficient working approaches, collaboration.
  • Ensure positive trend in key performance indicators of the digital platform. Partner with PMO, Product, and architecture for on-time delivery of solutions, proactively mitigate risk of “scope creep” and and negative guest or business impacts.

Cross-Team Collaboration, Team Culture, Staff Development

  • Lead and mentor by setting the example for direct reports including other leaders (ie., Supervisors or Managers) and individual contributors in day-to-day collaboration across the organization.
  • Work with executive leadership in providing clear decisions along with their implementation. Demonstrate to your team how to work with senior leadership and support decisions once made.
  • Coach and build confidence in staff to make and implement good technical and business decisions using technology and analytical thinking.
  • Promote and demonstrate working culture of accountability and technology depth to support Universal’s physical and virtual business aspirations.
    • Support and champion Universal Culture of team-member satisfaction through effective communication, planning, risk management, and coaching of high-potential candidates.
    • Work seamlessly with other Digital and Technology & teams and leaders to architect and build best in class solutions and experiences.

Administrative

  • Manage appropriate departmental budgets; review/approve related budget expenditures with executive leadership team. Demostrate an “act as an owner” mentality.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Degree in engineering, technology, analytics, or related fields preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 9+ years in progressive technology & software engineering required.
  • 5+ years’ experience leading digital, mobile, custom software engineering; proven success engineering consumer mobile experiences in a tourism/entertainment industry is preferred;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.
