Assistant Manager, Entertainment Production - Universal Kids Resort

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the creative execution of all seasonal, holiday, internal events, revenue events, off-property events, production and filmed assets, and short- and long-term event projects. Responsible for maintaining knowledge of area, tech and talent to be able to address concerns and disseminate information. Supports the life cycle of multiple events simultaneously with a focus on the creative aspects and show quality. Ensures compliance with Universal Kids Resort policies, procedures, Entertainment goals and creative intent. Drives successful completion of all tasks and/or assignments through all aspects of assigned projects and events.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the execution of each event as assigned, including installation and strike, and providing communication with all necessary counterparts within Universal Kids Resort. Accountable for managing the talent, technical, and administrative personnel needed to execute the event including external talent. Ensures high standards of quality and timeliness are maintained for all Guest-facing Entertainment elements, including weather contingencies when needed. Provides characters & entertainment support to on-property filmed productions, including but not limited to: public relations B-roll shoots, commercials, and internal marketing campaigns. Ensures cast/crew safety and upholds show quality during all off-property and travel events. Establishes team safety protocols, meeting locations, and communication plans for each off-property event.
  • Assists leader with creative concept development, Intellectual Property approval submissions, development and management of all assigned project-related aesthetics and show elements to define and ensure show quality compliance with overall project creative intent. Oversees assigned pre-production, casting, rehearsals, blocking, staging, and show quality maintenance. Participates in the implementation of the creative and technical design process to ensure design intent meets UKR standards and Intellectual Property requirements. Collaboratively creates and maintains all resource materials, associated with their assigned productions including scripts, blocking books, character training and resource materials. Provides direction to ensure show-critical creative content is maintained.
  • During events, supports the operation of the Entertainment Production team as needed including overseeing performers. Ensures labor goals, efficiencies, safety and quality standards are being met and addressed consistently. Effectively handles and properly reports any incidents, Team Member issues and operational deficiencies. Drives initiatives to increase Team Member satisfaction (TSAT) and Guest satisfaction (GSAT). Provides coaching and show direction to performers throughout event duration, communicates, and reinforces company and venue-specific expectations of behavior, performance, and safety standards. Manages the partnership with third-party vendors for events and serves as key liaison by ensuring contractual obligations are followed including but not limited to show quality, operating hours/show times, safety, Guest service, and financial reporting. Monitors the quality and effectiveness of work of third-party vendors.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, coaching, and developing hourly Team Members supporting events. Enforces department policies and procedures, inclusive of training and safety, while working with leadership to identify and develop new departmental policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for providing department duty manager coverage for an assigned area and/or the park as needed. Duties will include responding to escalated incidents and making the proper notifications including senior leadership. Leads and assists with projects, seasonal initiatives, and sustainment efforts.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Individual Contributor.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • At times, this individual may cover an area with multiple venues depending on scheduling and business needs. This individual will manage daily labor budgets and is responsible for the safe, efficient and friendly operation of the venues daily as well as the safety of the Team Members who work at these venues.
  • Must be able to work a flexible and varying schedule based on business needs.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities (KSAs) required.

  • Experience working with third-party vendors is preferred.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre, Entertainment, TV/Film Production or related field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years' experience required in live entertainment or theater involving show direction, script writing, or concept development with 1+ years of supervisory experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
