Senior Accountant - Sales Tax

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for preparation and support of multi-state tax compliance with a focus on UDX New Business Ventures, but will support Universal Orlando Resort and related entities, with a primary emphasis on sales and transaction taxes. Provides tax analysis, research, and support on a variety of indirect tax and general tax matters, partnering with business and operating teams to ensure compliance and support business initiatives.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare, review, and file multi-state tax returns, primarily sales and transaction tax returns, and assist with other tax filings as needed. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable tax laws.
  • Review transactions, projects, and business activities for tax compliance, considering varying jurisdictional requirements, taxability rules, exemptions, and special rates. Provide guidance on tax treatment and documentation requirements.
  • Conduct timely research on day-to-day sales and transaction tax questions; interpret statutes, regulations, and rulings; prepare memos and guidance for finance and operating teams. Provide training and process guidance to internal stakeholders to promote compliance.
  • Support management during tax audits, examinations, and notices across multiple jurisdictions; help gather documentation, analyze positions, and coordinate responses with external advisors as needed.
  • Assist with ad-hoc tax and finance projects, process improvements, system implementations, and cross-functional initiatives. Communicate effectively with Finance, and divisions outside of Finance that are supported by Tax including Operations, Legal, and project teams.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • Associate degree (AA) is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of accounting or business experience;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.
