JOB SUMMARY:
Provides the skilled, discipline-specific technical skills needed for the successful operation, handling, storage and maintenance of fireworks/pyrotechnics in assigned Entertainment areas. Maintains technical show quality by assisting with transportation, preparation, inventory, and storage of fireworks/pyrotechnics and equipment.
Ensures the proper completion of and adherence to all policies, procedures, regulations, and documentation as defined by federal, state, and local statutory and regulatory authorities, including but not limited to NFPA, DOT, BATFE, and Universal Orlando.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act as a Pyrotechnic/Fireworks crew member primarily at an Entertainment Fireworks Storage Facility. Responsible for the safe operation, handling, and storage of all fireworks/pyrotechnic/special effect equipment and devices in compliance with policies and procedures set forth by the Entertainment department. This includes adhering to guidelines established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), and local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs). Perform tasks such as sorting, storage, preparation (including matching), and maintenance of fireworks/pyrotechnics and equipment, including the handling of explosive materials.
- Assist with transportation of explosive materials between storage facilities, to include loading and unloading of trucks and shipping containers containing fireworks and/or articles pyrotechnic. Adhere to all standards set by the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Entertainment department.
- Accurately complete required documentation to maintain accountability of the locations for fireworks/pyrotechnic devices, keeping in compliance within internal and governmental regulations. Ensure accurate completion of all technical documentation; to include daily checklists, SOPs, daily FYI, inventory, and other such documentation. Satisfactorily completes all required training documentation including assessments and check off lists.
- Complete daily work tasks as assigned by Lead Tech or management. Support the startup and shutdown of work activities. Facilitate communication and coordination with the Lead Tech and management as necessary. Convey resource requirements and work plans to the Lead Tech. Maintain effective two-way communication between technicians, Lead Techs, and other management personnel when needed.
- Assist with inventory of tools, equipment, material, and other UO property, ensuring proper care, maintenance, and storage is upheld. Ensures a safe working environment and assists with regular.
- inspections. Notify management of any material needs or safety concerns.
- Maintain safe and tidy working conditions in assigned areas. Assist with maintenance and upkeep of assigned facilities.
- Safely operates heavy equipment.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Technical school, Associate Degree, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ Years experience with fireworks and/or pyrotechnics within theme park industry preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
- Ability to complete the UO Pyrotechnics and Fireworks training course(s) required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a CDL with Hazmat endorsement preferred.

POSITION TITLE:
JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the appropriate implementation of all policies and procedures, including high-risk, for assigned area and team, as defined by statutory and regulatory authorities for federal, state, and local authorities, including NFPA and Universal Orlando, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- During operation, act as the Special Effects/Pyrotechnic Operator within the assigned venue, project, or event. Assesses Hazards associated with high risk pyrotechnic and special effects equipment or systems. Immediately elevates identified hazards to Lead for mitigation determination.
- Responsible for the appropriate installation/setup, storage, strike, and maintenance of SPFX equipment including handling of flammable liquids/gases & explosive materials. Elevates any technical problems or concerns to Lead or management as they occur.
- Diagnose system failures and provide immediate and long-term corrective actions. Troubleshoot, and repair equipment including the required documentation.
- Responsible for effectively communicating pertinent information, both written and verbal, which pertains to the technical operation of the assigned entertainment venue/event, to other disciplines, entertainment tech management, and team members of the venue/event.
- Complete required documentation to maintain accountability of the locations for pyrotechnic devices, keeping incompliance with UO pyrotechnic policies.
- Operation of heavy equipment.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.

EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- 2-4 Years experience within the assigned technical discipline.
Preferred:
- Prior experience within the professional theme park/theater industry in a technical capacity (electrical, mechanical, special effects, pyrotechnics); or equivalent combination of education and experience

JOB SUMMARY:
Supports the Lead Tech and management as a point of contact for the coordination activities for technicians in all assigned venues and maintains venue technical show quality by performing the following duties. Assist with the operation and execution of entertainment show and applies advance level knowledge and understanding of hazards associated with high risk pyrotechnic/firework and special effects equipment or systems. Communicates with leadership and immediately stops any unsafe activity. Ensures the proper completion and enforcement of all UO, NFPA and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) policies, procedures, regulations, and documentation.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acts as a Pyrotechnic/Fireworks crew member at an Entertainment Venue, responsible for ensuring the safe operation of all pyrotechnic/fireworks and special effect equipment and devices in compliance with policies and procedures set forth by the Entertainment Department. This includes adhering to guidelines established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives (BATFE), and local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs). Additionally, functions as the Pyrotechnic/Fireworks specific point of contact for a designated area/venue, performing and verifying the safe and accurate completion of tasks such as loading, sorting, storage, strike, and maintenance of pyrotechnics/fireworks and equipment, including the handling of explosive materials. During performances, assumes the role of the pyrotechnic/fireworks system operator within the assigned venue and promptly reports any technical problems or concerns to the Lead or management.
- Assists with assigned daily work tasks with qualified technicians. Supports the startup and shutdown of work activities. Facilitates communication and coordination with the Lead Tech and management as necessary. Conveys resource requirements and work plans to the Lead Tech. Maintains effective two-way communication between technicians, Lead Tech’s, and other management personnel when needed.
- As directed, assists in technical training and implementation of all training materials. Stays up to date on technology trends to advance production capabilities.
- Assist with inventory of tools, equipment, material, and other UO property, ensuring proper care, maintenance, and storage is upheld. Ensures a safe working environment and assists with regular inspections. Notify management of any material needs or safety concerns.
- Troubleshoot and identify technical issues and when to escalate to the responsible maintenance team and management
- Complete required documentation to maintain accountability of the locations for pyrotechnic/firework devices, keeping incompliance within internal and governmental regulation. Ensures proper completion of all technical documentation; to include daily checklists, SOPs, daily FYI, inventory, and other such documentation. Complete required training documentation including assessments and check-off lists.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Technical school, Associate degree (AA), or Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years of experience using advanced control systems, preferably within the theme park/theater industry in a technical capacity preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
