JOB SUMMARY:
NBCUniversal (NBCU) and Universal Products & Experiences (UP&E) develop licensed and branded consumer goods and promotional products which are sold at retail at theme parks and/or otherwise distributed worldwide. Product lines currently include toys, children’s products, food/drinkware, apparel, cosmetics, souvenirs, stationery, technology products and collectibles.
The role of Representative, Merchandise Compliance & Product Safety Center independently handles certain entry-level compliance functions for the UP&E-Parks Global Merchandise (PGM) and Product Safety Center (PSC) product compliance programs.
This role acts as an initial point-of-contact for the NBCUniversal Product Safety Center. The individual in this role handles low-level compliance processes / decisions and escalates technical or legal questions related to compliance of developed or custom-branded merchandise for NBCUniversal-owned/operated and licensed/affiliated business units.
The role helps to ensure that the domestic UDX theme parks, its applicable third-party partners and NBCU business units remain in compliance with all safety and legal compliance obligations as it relates to the development and distribution of branded or licensed retail products.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acts as first point-of-contact for NBCU business units to respond to and/or escalate product compliance inquiries as part of the NBCU PSC. Performs Management with PSC compliance communications & tracking for NBCU business unit consultations & trainings and for the NBCU-Approved Promotional Vendors Program. Independently administers the six-month vendor check-in program and other vendor-vetting activities.
- Reviews & approves vendor-submitted product safety test reports & compliance documentation of lower risk products for completeness, accuracy, and potential escalation to technical team. Manages compliance data in merchandise databases & trackers and “chases” any incomplete documentation from vendors. Maintains SOPs, guidance documents, forms, and resource materials.
- Validates product safety compliance testing data and uploads electronic filing of certificate data in U.S. government’s CPSC Product Registry. Partners with internal Logistics team & external import brokers’ for requests of certificate identifier data for Universal-imported products filing for entry into U.S.
- Performs review/approval for and tracks technical files or other compliance documents for third-party merchandise service contracts for completeness, accuracy, and potential escalation to technical team.
- Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3+ years of relevant corporate business experience in the field of Merchandise, Product Safety, Legal, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years of recent experience with consumer product safety programs is strongly preferred.
- Experience with licensed products is a plus.
