About the department / center:

The Center for Historic Architecture and Design (CHAD) helps communities preserve their heritage in the face of rapid development and change. CHAD ensures that preservation and historic resources are part of planning and policy development at local, state, national, and international levels. CHAD excels at research and documentation of historic properties and traditional technologies; National Register nominations; and cultural resource surveys that contribute to creation of historic districts, heritage tourism, and similar efforts.  

We are looking for at least two smart, hard-working, and dependable undergraduate or graduate students to help staff at the Center for Historic Architecture and Design develop a framework for Latinx and Hispanic Historic Resources in the City of Wilmington. There is a potential to continue this position into the summer. Please see the job responsibilities below. The positions require a 10 hour per week time commitment (more hours possible especially in summer), with flexible scheduling, good written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to complete repetitive tasks. All training will be provided. The work will take place in Alison Hall on the University of Delaware campus, with potential of remote work. Fluent in Spanish preferred.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Background Research to document chronology of Latinx and Hispanic Presence in Wilmington.
  • Plan interviews with community leaders.
  • Assist CHAD staff with preparation of questionnaire: one in English and one in Spanish.
  • Help author for future work to identify, evaluate and nominate historic buildings and landscapes related to the Latinx and Hispanic history in Wilmington.

Qualifications:  

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible scheduling including summer work
  • Ability to complete repetitive tasks
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred
