About the department / center:

The Maintenance and Operations department is responsible for the planning and execution of minor facility projects, commonly referred to as “Requests for Service” (RFS), “small jobs,” or “quick hits.” These projects typically involve non-programmatic changes to campus buildings or infrastructure, addressing immediate or smaller-scale needs outside of major capital improvements.

Role Description:

The Maintenance and Operations department is seeking one summer helper to support the Small Projects Shop with asset data gathering at the UCA complex. This temporary position involves physically surveying every room across multiple buildings, requiring a significant amount of walking. The primary responsibilities include collecting nameplate information for appliances and plumbing fixtures and entering that data into Excel. Training on the data entry process will be provided.

After the initial data collection is complete, the summer helper will assist in transferring the information into the Maximo asset management system, under the supervision of Michael Schlag. The position will be equipped with an iPad for on-site use and a dedicated workstation.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who is comfortable with physical activity, data entry, and working independently. The department is confident in identifying a strong candidate who can effectively contribute to this important project.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Survey all rooms in the UCA complex to collect asset information
  • Record nameplate data for appliances and plumbing fixtures
  • Input collected data into Excel (training provided)
  • Transfer finalized data into the Maximo asset management system under supervision
  • Use an iPad for on-site data collection
  • Work from a designated workstation provided by the department
  • Collaborate with and take direction from Michael Schlag and the Small Projects Shop team Perform tasks requiring significant walking and attention to detail

Qualifications:  

  • Ability to walk extensively and navigate multiple buildings and rooms throughout the day
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel (training on specific tasks will be provided)
  • Comfortable using technology such as iPads and asset management systems (e.g., Maximo)
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to collaborate with team members
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
