Role Description/Primary Responsibilities:

Facilitate patron’s use of materials in the reading room: completing paperwork, locating materials via the Library catalog and finding aids, instructing patrons of proper handling techniques, and monitoring the use of materials. May also participate in the paging of rare books and manuscript collections and the creation of physical and digital surrogates of materials. Additional projects may vary.

Qualifications:  

• Customer service skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to search (or learn to search) online catalog and databases to locate materials for researchers
• Must be able to lift, with or without assistance, boxes of books and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, push and pull full book carts weighing up to 250 pounds, and bend and reach to place books and journals on library shelves ranging from 3 to 90 inches high.
• Preferred: Work Study students
• Preferred: Interest in the collecting focus topics of Special Collections, which includes, but is not limited to: English, Irish, and American literature, history and Delawareana, the history of science and technology, among others.
