Role Description:

The Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships (OEIP) at the University of Delaware (UD) is seeking Software Developers/Engineers  to join an interdisciplinary team of engineers, business analysts, marketing specialists, and designers to work together as an interdisciplinary team with an innovative company seeking to build a next-gen lending decision platform to make smarter, faster and fairer loan decisions for small businesses that don’t fit the traditional lending mold.

The student team will work as an independent team, in close consultation and under the guidance of experts and mentors, to design and develop innovative ideas for the software that will utilize alternative data, AI-powered risk modeling and real-time underwriting to identify creditworthy business that would normally be discounted by traditional, outdated scoring models.

The team will conduct in-depth market and business research, analyses to validate the problem/opportunity and develop a corresponding solution that will support lender decisions and increase opportunities for small business financial health and well-being.

This Spin In® team will be based in a dedicated space located at the Fintech Innovation Hub on the UD STAR campus. Weekly team meetings required; live, in-person format.

Primary Responsibilities:

Position as Software Developers / Engineers:

Responsibilities entail taking part in a collaborative product development team to research, design, plan and develop a next-gen lending decision platform to make smarter, faster and fairer loan decisions for small businesses that don’t fit the traditional lending mold.

Available roles will include developers with ability to:

  • Develop a clear understanding of the existing product and service – and fintech industry.
  • Engage with Business and Marketing Teams to understand primary market and customer(s); need and drive for new solutions to support lending decisions for small businesses.
  • Understand models and key paraments involved in making lending decisions for small businesses.
  • Lead the development of the software application and/or web-based prototype and contribute to the following:
    • Identify technical requirements and development engine for best delivery method based on customer need(s).
    • Develop MVP software with ability to:
      • Engage with both lenders and borrowers in separate, connected access portals.
      • Access central database that stores data required to make lending decisions.
      • Utilize artificial intelligence powered algorithms to provide risk scoring for lenders and fundability scoring for borrowers.
      • Integrate access to 3-5 alternative data providers (for lenders)
      • Provide real time application status updates (for borrowers)
      • Provide access to education and resources to improve loan eligibility (for borrowers)
  • Work with other members on the team, recommend and develop additional features to increase engagement based on end user needs.
  • Internally validate the product; work business representatives to develop a method to validate progress and product features.
  • Work with team to ensure that project is delivered on target according to the requirements and with the highest quality
  • Keep the team up to date on technical development trends and updates.

Qualifications:  

  • Enrolled in BS program in CS/CE/CIS/ECE, preferred.
  • Experience with front end, back end and/or full stack development.
  • An understanding of the software development life cycle.
  • High attention to detail; excellent communication skills and leadership skills.

Personal qualifications:

The successful candidate will be a personally motivated self-starter; and can also work with little guidance. Must have ability to actively engage with other members on the team, including students, peers, mentors, and experts to further develop his or her knowledge to solve work related challenges. The candidate must be capable of contributing and achieving in a small, highly collaborative, consensus-driven team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required.
