Overview: The Honors Program of Quinnipiac University seeks highly qualified applicants as Honors Adjunct Instructors committed to teaching three sections of “Honors First Year Seminar” (FYS 101H) in Fall 2024 semester.
About the School/Program: The Quinnipiac Honors Program is an intellectually challenging holistic education option designed for high-achieving undergraduates. The program integrates student-centered interdisciplinary inquiry in the classroom, with high-impact co-curricular Signature Experiences, events, community service, residential community, and experiential courses in the U.S. and abroad. Our mission is to stimulate intellectual curiosity, academic leadership, and an ethos of community engagement. The Honors First Year Seminar (FYS 101H) introduces new Honors students to practices of independent inquiry that combine and transcend conventional disciplinary boundaries. Faculty collaborate with students in lively discussions on an issue or challenge that encompasses multiple disciplines. In each FYS 101H section, faculty are supported by an undergraduate Honors Peer Catalyst, who mentors first year Honors students and engages in class discussions. Responsibilities:

Faculty hired for this position are responsible for the following:

  • Teaching three in-person sections of Honors First Year Seminar (FYS 101H) for Fall 2024 semester. The sections require only one preparation.
  • Participation in FYS 101 general orientation.
  • Participation in Honors faculty development workshops in August and at other times during the semester.
  • Maintain at least 3 hours of in-person office student meeting time per week.
  • Engagement in four co-curricular Honors Program events.
  • Faculty will be considered for Honors course assignments for Spring 2025 semester.
Education Requirements:
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree is required. Candidates with STEM or psychology backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience at the university level is preferred.
  • Commitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

Identify a problem, issue, or challenging question that you have a working familiarity with, and which you think could be the core for an FYS 101H Honors seminar. It need not be strictly tied to your professional experience or academic degree. It need not be a course topic you have taught before. Then, describe how you would design an intellectual experience about the diverse disciplinary modes of knowing, understanding, and not-knowing, about that issue or challenge. What strategies might you use to support student growth in interdisciplinary inquiry? How might your strategies lead students to unbind the issue from traditional subject matter categories?
