Overview:

The College of Arts & Sciences and the School of Health Sciences at Quinnipiac University invite applications for a full-time Laboratory Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to join the university during a period of significant growth with the opening of our new Science, Innovation, Technology, and Exploration (SITE) building, a cutting-edge facility that will house teaching and research laboratories.

The Laboratory Manager will oversee the daily operations, preparation, and organization of instructional laboratories across multiple scientific disciplines. Responsibilities include managing chemical inventories, gas cylinders, and laboratory materials to ensure the smooth and safe delivery of lab-based courses. The successful candidate will work closely with faculty lab coordinators, other lab managers, vendors, and staff to support lab instruction and ensure compliance with safety standards.

This is a 10-month (August–May), full-time staff position with full university benefits. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2025.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and set up equipment, supplies, reagents, specimens, and instructional models for weekly teaching labs; dismantle and clean up labs at the end of each week.
  • Manage storage and organization of delivered laboratory supplies and equipment to ensure timely availability.
  • Maintain and coordinate inventories of gas cylinders and chemicals.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Environmental Health and Fire Safety and fellow Lab Managers to ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous and perishable materials.
  • Maintain an inventory of laboratory equipment, establish maintenance schedules, and plan for equipment replacement as needed.
  • Restock supplies and reagents before each academic term for assigned labs. Plan and prepare before each academic term the proper inventory for supplies and reagents.
  • Assist in recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising work-study student employees.
  • Contribute to lab safety training programs for students and faculty; ensure adherence to EPA, OSHA, and institutional safety standards.
  • Test protocols and lab setups in advance; prepare reagents and solutions, and provide feedback to faculty lab coordinators.
  • Collaborate with faculty on instructional support, including testing new equipment and protocols.
  • Communicate lab policies and operational updates to faculty regularly.
  • Work with Information Technology to support and update lab software systems.
  • Provide support for graduate-level lab courses as time permits.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Chemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline preferred
Qualifications:
  • 1–3 years of experience in laboratory operations or management.
  • Strong understanding of lab safety practices, chemical handling, and hazardous materials management.
  • Excellent organizational skills and technical proficiency in lab equipment and inventory systems.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to supervise student workers and collaborate with faculty.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations and contribute positively to the university community.
