 Graduate Assistant Pool

POSITION

The Department of Human Communication Studies at CSU Fullerton invites applications for the position of Graduate Assistants.  

Well qualified graduate students are assigned Graduate Assistant duties up to 10-15 hours per week, and are assigned to work under the direct supervision of a faculty member in a course taught by the faculty member, including but not limited to courses in:  

  • Public Speaking
  • Introduction to Communication Studies
  • Essentials of Argumentation
  • Forensics (speech and debate)

This is a pool of graduate assistants for the department to draw on as necessary.

APPOINTMENTS REQUIRE ADMISSION AND GOOD STANDING IN THE HUMAN COMMUNICATION STUDIES GRADUATE PROGRAM. 

ASSIGNMENTS ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. APPLICANTS MAY BE OFFERED COURSE ASSIGNMENTS ON VERY SHORT NOTICE. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in the graduate program in the Human Communication Studies Department.
  • Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse range of students, including first-generation college students.
  • Coursework or prior teaching experience in the particular course topic.
  • Knowledge of the subject matter of the discipline in which assigned.
  • For the initial appointment, evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work.
  • For subsequent appointment, evidence of satisfactory progress toward completion of the degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preference will be given to those with significant experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.

COMPENSATION

All Graduate Assistant appointments are made under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the United Auto Worker. Initial appointments are for one semester.

Classification Range: $3,090 to $5,783 per month
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $4,500

The full-time monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the time base assigned.

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse And Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083, revised July 21, 2017, as a condition of employment.

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. A paper copy of the AFSR is available upon request by contacting the Housing Office located at The Housing & Residential Engagement Main Office.
