Graduate Assistant

POSITION

Dr. Monica Hanna, Professor in Chicana/o Studies, invites applications for a Graduate Assistant position on the Latinx Literary Journalism Database (a Latinx Lab for Storytelling and Social Justice project) for Fall 2024.

This position provides an opportunity to assist with a Digital Humanities project gathering and making accessible contemporary Latinx literary journalism that considers the shapes of contemporary Latinx identity. Applicants should have a strong background in one or more of the following areas: Chicanx or Latinx Studies, journalism or media studies, narrative studies, or English. Applicants should also have an interest in digital humanities and/or web design.

The Graduate Assistant will support the Latinx Literary Journalism Database project by:

  • Working collaboratively with other Graduate Assistants to plan work schedule for the semester.
  • Meeting regularly with other Graduate Assistants and Dr. Hanna to review the status of the database and communicate progress.
  • Collecting bibliographic information.
  • Conducting research, including bibliographic research and/or field research (interviews, for example).
  • Developing web-specific materials related to the project; this may include interviews/other video and interactive web components.
  • Developing the database website.
  • Categorizing content.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current acceptance or enrollment in a graduate program within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at CSUF.
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong research skills including the ability to work with both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, use independent judgment, and apply critical thinking and analytical skills.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Digital Humanities research experience and/or web design experience not required, but helpful.

COMPENSATION

All Graduate Assistant appointments are made under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the United Auto Workers.  Initial appointments are for one semester only. 

Classification Range: $3,090 to $5,783 per month
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $5,200

The full-time monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the time base assigned.

Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act Notification:
Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus.
