Athletics Academic Services DEGREE Program Graduate Mentor Instructional Student Assistant Pool
POSITION
The Department of Athletics Academic Services at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its DEGREE Program Graduate Mentor Instructional Student Assistant pool.
We welcome applications from current CSUF graduate and undergraduate students to assist student-athletes in attaining their academic and career goals through proactive academic support monitoring, alongside Athletics Academic Services staff. This will include involvement in the academic support/mentoring & tutoring aspects of programming for the Student-Athlete DEGREE lab, UNIV-115, academic support counseling program, tutoring, and Life Skills programming.
Through academic mentoring/tutoring the DEGREE Program Academic Mentor will also gain knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, specifically as they apply to the Academic Progress Rate (APR) and Initial and Continuing NCAA Eligibility. Mentors will assist students in the use of computer lab technology and software applications as it pertains to their role as a mentor/tutor.
This Athletics Academic Services Mentor position is between 6-10 hours/week. The DEGREE Lab is open Monday-Thursday, 9am-7pm and Friday, 9am-12pm. Mentors must be available for at least 1 closing shift a week (until 7pm).
This is a pool of DEGREE Program Mentors for the department to draw on as necessary.
APPOINTMENTS FROM THE POOL ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. APPLICANTS MAY BE OFFERED EMPLOYMENT ON VERY SHORT NOTICE.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Currently enrolled graduate and undergraduate students at CSUF in good academic standing. (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
Ability to learn and perform assigned work
Must have an excellent command of English – both oral and written
Be able to follow directions, show initiative, be reliable
Demonstrated ability to interact and work effectively with a culturally diverse population of students.
Must be available for at least 1 closing shift Monday-Thursday (until 7pm)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to tutor in relevant CSUF courses (e.g. Statistics, Human Communications, English, etc.)
Ability to assist students in the use of computer lab technology and software applications.

COMPENSATION
All Instructional Student Assistant appointments are made under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the United Auto Workers. Initial appointments are for one semester only.
Classification Range: $17.86 - $23.84 per hour Anticipated hiring range depending on qualification, not to exceed $19.30

The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter’ under the California Child Abuse And Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083, revised July 21, 2017, as a condition of employment.

Please note, that continued employment is contingent upon your successful completion of a background screening as required under CSU policy. Instructional Student Assistants are rehired at CSUF after a break in service of 12 or more months who have not had a CSUF background check within the past 12 months will be subject to a new background check; rehire is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of the new background check.
