POSITION

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at CSU Fullerton invites applications for its Part-Time Lecturer Pool.

We seek applications from individuals who are passionate about teaching and sharing their practical experience through some of our graduate and undergraduate courses in all areas of Civil Engineering.

This is a pool of part-time lecturers for the department to draw on as necessary. Qualified applicants will be contacted when positions are available.

APPOINTMENTS FROM THE PART-TIME POOL ARE TEMPORARY AND OFTEN MADE JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF THE ACADEMIC TERM. APPLICANTS MUST BE AVAILABLE ON VERY SHORT NOTICE. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering and at least 2 years of work experience in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Able to document candidate’s excellent preparation in Civil Engineering along with current experience in the industry
  • Proficiency in online teaching strategies
  • Candidates should have prior teaching experience at the university level.
  • Candidates should demonstrate their ability to interact and work effectively with a wide and culturally diverse student population, including first-generation college students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Ph.D. in Civil Engineering or related field
  • A PE or other appropriate license/certification to teach design courses
  • Preference will be given to those with significant teaching experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Preference will also be given to those with relevant work experience and those who bring professional capabilities

The Department
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at California State University, Fullerton is growing with all-time high undergraduate and graduate student populations.  With 16 full-time well-recognized faculty members and a dynamic group of industry professionals as part-time instructors, our goal is to provide transformational educational experiences to our students. Our truly remarkable BS and MS degree programs provide our students with the professional skills and academic competence needed to excel in the areas of civil engineering.

APPOINTMENT DATE AND ACADEMIC CALENDAR

The need for part-time faculty is greatest in Fall and Spring semesters. The Fall term begins in the late August and ends in mid-December; the Spring term runs from the middle of January through the end of May. On rare occasions part-time faculty are needed during one of the Summer Session segments.

APPOINTMENT AND SALARY

All part-time faculty appointments are made as Lecturers, under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the CSU system and the California Faculty Association.  Initial appointments are for one semester only.

Classification Range: $5,007 - $6,359 per month
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $5,925 per month

The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries indicated above are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. For a three-unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $6,008.40 to $7,110 per semester.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Regular performance evaluations of part-time lecturers are made by the department in accord with the faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and University Policy Statement 210.070. These performance evaluations determine which lecturers will be retained for future and continued teaching assignments. And in some instances, syllabi, assignments and reading material will be reviewed by the departmental personnel committee.

Faculty rehired at CSUF after a break in service of 12 or more months who have not had a CSUF background check within the past 12 months will be subject to a new background check; rehire is contingent upon the satisfactory completion of the new background check

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the current Annual Security Report (ASR) is available for viewing at: https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. This report contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery Act crimes for California State University, Fullerton for the last three (3) calendar years. Paper copies are available upon request at the CSUF Police Department.

 

Notice of Availability of the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)
In addition, pursuant to the Higher Education Opportunity Act, the AFSR is also available at https://hr.fullerton.edu/risk-management/clery-act/. The purpose of this report is to disclose statistics for fires that occurred within California State University, Fullerton housing facilities for the last three (3) calendar years, and to distribute fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus.
