Position Summary:
|
The Development Associate will be responsible for providing focused, professional, proactive, and logistical support to all aspects of the fundraising effort and report to the Associate Director of Institutional Advancement. This role supports the Institutional Advancement team consisting of seven employees.
The Development Associate’s main role is to be a part of and assist the Associate Dean, Director, and Associate Director of Institutional Advancement with fundraising for the law school and its top priorities: the Alumni Scholarship Fund, Dean’s Discretionary Fund, the David Martinidez Scholarship, and Public Service Stipends. This employee will interface with the Dean of the Law School, board members, prospective and current donors, volunteers, students, alumni, foundation board members, parents of students, parents of alumni, faculty, deans, and all levels of administration.
Cardozo School of Law is currently in year four of a University-wide comprehensive campaign. The law school has raised over $40M towards its $50M goal in honor of the school’s 50th anniversary in 2026. The Office of Institutional Advancement spearheads this campaign and this position will have an integral part of the final years of the campaign and its success.

Position Responsibilities:
|
- Write briefings for major gift prospect meetings and the Dean of the Law School, conduct prospect research and research of current donors' giving history, new donors giving potential, and identifying new donors, and participate in strategy sessions to target and communicate with donors
- Will also assist with travel arrangements for the fundraiser’s regional visits
- Prioritize fundraising efforts through participating and supporting the Annual Fund solicitation efforts, by working with consultants, drafting solicitations, and creating mail lists
- Manage the law school’s gift processing. They will be responsible for the effective and timely processing of all aspects of the department’s gift program (gifts and pledges); responsible for ensuring University policy and procedures for handling and processing donor records and ensuring correct allocation of donations, responsible for assigning the proper classification, coding, and categorization of gifts and pledges, and determining the assignment of soft or hard credit in the database
- The Associate will work closely with prospect managers and the central gift processing team to ensure gifts are allocated and credited properly in the database
- Responsible for the Associate Dean of Institutional Advancement calendar and scheduling internal Cardozo IA team meetings
- Collaborate with the Individual Giving and Stewardship Manager on stewardship activities, such as coordination of acknowledgment letters, student scholarship letters, and Dean’s Council (leadership giving society) events
- Assist the Director of Alumni Affairs with tasks such as production of fundraising events both in-person and virtual, event/gift processing and gift reporting, and acknowledgments following events. Responsibilities may include attending committee meetings, taking meeting minutes, and providing support for marketing and social media projects
- Serve as the liaison for the department regarding donor inquiries, Cardozo and Yeshiva administration, faculty, and students, and as such, exercise independent judgment and discretion in handling issues directly or determining alternate actions; responsible for the general phone line to answer immediate questions and direct appropriately
- Will be in continual contact with donors and constituents, whether it be following up on a gift, inviting a constituent to an event, addressing a question or problem, and participating in solicitations via phone calls and email
- General management for the department which includes updating the database, formatting and producing timely and accurate reports for distribution, updating the webpage on the law school’s website, and overseeing the giving portal
- Overseeing the department’s budget and our purchase orders to pay outstanding invoices to vendors

Experience & Educational Background:
|
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 1-3 years experience
|
Skills & Competencies:
|
- Must be well-organized and have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact successfully both one-on-one and in large group settings
- Demonstrated ability to drive activity for multiple projects/groups and work effectively in a team environment with diverse populations
- Strong interpersonal skills as well as the ability to interact well with faculty, staff, alumni, and other constituents
- Must have the ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling manner
- The capacity to clearly comprehend and communicate the School’s mission and ongoing initiatives
- Fluent in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word & PowerPoint) and comfortable and willing to learn a new prospect management database (Ellucian CRM)
- Excellent judgment in determining the ability to make appropriate use of resources to further fundraising goals
- Collaborative and enthusiastic team player
- Evening/weekend work events and potential domestic travel
