About the role
In this role you will provide an efficient and effective service which assists in facilitating the assessment and issuance of building approvals and reports on all building-related matters. Temporary full time (13 months).
Key responsibilities include:
- Assess building-related applications to determine compliance with relevant legislation.
- Prepare statutory reports and approvals for issuance in accordance with the Building Act 1993 and Building Regulations 2018.
- Provide professional assessment and advice on all matters and issues as delegated by the Building Surveyor and/or the Municipal Building Surveyor.
- Ensure that statutory requirements, regulations and codes of practice are understood and applied consistently and fairly.
- Participate in a program of inspections and field investigations to assist clients and to ensure fair and proper compliance with relevant legislation and policy.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, as required, to achieve department outcomes.
- Provide a credible and trusted advisory service to customers.
- Assist in representing Council in public forums, legal proceedings and appeal hearings, including in the preparation of documentation for submission as requested.
- Prepare reports and submissions to the Building Surveyor and/or Municipal Building Surveyor as requested.
- Promote Council values in all aspects of duty.
- Adhere to Council’s policies and procedures relevant to this position.
- Carry out other duties as deemed reasonable and appropriate to the role as directed from time to time.
- This role will be required to participate in after hours on-call / availability service and rostered overtime activities.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have the relevant formal academic qualifications recognised by the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) in respect to building surveying.
Essential Experience:
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in building surveying, working in either a local government Building Department or private practice.
- A proficient theoretical and practical knowledge and ability to interpret building related applications, associated legislation and practices.
- An understanding of the operation of local government and legal process within Victoria.
- Knowledge of government policies and practices and awareness of current trends and issues.
- Highly developed analytical, investigative, interpretative and problem-solving skills.
- Confident and collaborative communication style with the ability to produce positive outcomes with diverse stakeholder groups.
- A Current Victorian Driver's licence.
