About the role
In this role you will be responsible for leading a dedicated and experienced team of Youth Community Development Officers to design and deliver innovative programs that support the health, wellbeing, and personal development of young people in Greater Geelong. This is a leadership position with a strong focus on partnerships, project management, community engagement, and team development. You will play a key role in shaping and implementing initiatives that respond to community needs, while overseeing budgets and ensuring programs align with strategic objectives and relevant policies and procedures.
Work Type: Temporary Full Time (through to August 2026)
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide strategic leadership to a multidisciplinary team, fostering a high-performance, collaborative, and customer-focused culture.
- Guide, support, and develop team members through coaching, mentoring and role modelling to achieve professional growth and team objectives.
- Coordinate team planning and delivery in line with business plans, budgets, and strategic objectives, ensuring alignment with relevant policies and governance frameworks.
- Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of innovative, inclusive, and evidence-based programs that align with organisational and community priorities.
- Monitor and report on team performance, budgets, and project outcomes to ensure effective and timely delivery of services.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including young people, families, schools, community organisations, and service providers.
- Foster cross-organisational collaboration to support the delivery of departmental initiatives and maximise community impact.
- Interpret and apply legislation, policy, and best practice guidelines to ensure compliance and quality in service delivery.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have proven experience in community development and leadership, strong judgment, the ability to manage competing priorities effectively, and excellent skills in building and maintaining stakeholder relationships.
Essential Experience:
- Experience in people management, fostering a collaborative environment and supporting employee's development to drive performance and growth.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to develop innovative solutions and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Ability to operate effectively and flexibly in fast-paced environments, managing competing priorities and balancing multiple workflows simultaneously.
- Proven ability to develop strategic partnerships and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders to deliver quality, impactful outcomes.
