About the role
In this role, you will develop and lead the City’s corporate communications, public and media relations to optimise earned media opportunities to proactively manage Brand reputation.

Reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, the Manager Corporate Communications is accountable for the City’s strategic internal and external corporate communications and media relations with a key focus on stakeholder management and enhancing the strategic communications to optimize media and social media opportunities. The Manager will develop strategies and provide expert advice on promoting a positive reputation of the City and the Council.

Classification:
$160,360 base plus superannuation at 11%

Key responsibilities include:

  • Proactively identifying and managing risks and opportunities relating to the reputation of the City and the Council.
  • Providing expert advice to the Chief Executive Officer on matters relating to the reputation of the City and the Council.
  • Contributing to an effective, customer focused Office of the CEO through designing and delivering media releases and communications for the Mayor and Councillors.
  • Designing and implementing strategies and plans to proactively improve and promote a positive reputation of the City and the Council in line with an aspirational organisational strategy.
  • Informing, promoting, and advocating the City’s initiatives to its internal and external stakeholders.
  • Enhancing and leading the City’s internal employee engagement and internal stakeholder management.
  • Providing strategic oversight and leadership of employee and strategic communications projects, strategies, and activities.
  • Leading the Corporate Communications team and the implementation of its operating plan by effectively developing and mentoring team members and creating a supportive, motivating, and safe team culture.
  • Overseeing digital employee communications and engagement channels and processes.
  • Enhancing the ability of the City to communicate with its stakeholders through the use of technology and innovative communication practices.

About you
To be successful in this role you will have demonstrated experience in leading, development and implementing stakeholder communications and engagement strategies in complex environments with multiple initiatives within major change projects.

Essential Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in journalism, communications, media, public relations, or community engagement, and significant relevant experience in advising and liaising with highest levels of management including CEO and Executive leadership teams.
  • Reputation of being a professional leader, consistently displaying integrity, humility, maturity, situational sensitivity, respect for self and others and striving for excellence.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and lead others within a dynamic and high-profile environment, enabling high-functioning, productive and engaged teams to operate.
  • Highly developed customer centric mindset and communication (interpersonal, verbal and written) skills to explain complex information clearly to and negotiate with stakeholders.
  • A record of achievement and innovation in leadership of a dynamic and high-profile environment.
  • Demonstrated program coordination experience and the ability to work effectively across multiple teams and large programs of work.
  • The ability to anticipate issues and develop sound issues management mitigation.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a complex high-profile and matrix environment.
