About the role
In this role you will provide an effective compliance inspection service in relation to buildings and places of public entertainment, including essential safety measures, swimming pools, spas and safety barriers and public precautions for building work. In addition, when requested, the role will assist in the delivery of inspection services in relation to commercial, industrial, public institutional, residential, domestic, and ancillary buildings to ensure appropriate action is taken to achieve compliance with the relevant Acts and standards. This position will also be responsible for providing advice and support to clients with a customer focused professional advisory service.

Classification: Band 6 $92,971-$100,286 plus super
Key responsibilities include:
- Assist in the management of Council’s Pool and Spa Register via a programme of documentation review, inspections and issuing of Notices and directions to owners (including Form 24s and 25s), to ensure that swimming pools, spas and safety barriers are compliant with the requirements of the Building Regulations.
- Undertake field inspections to assist clients with essential safety measures audits and tracking of any required corrective actions.
- Assist with building enforcement matters under Part 8 of the Building Act 1993.
- Assist with providing coverage for mandatory building inspections under Part 12 of the Building Regulations 2018, as part of the delivery of Council’s building permit and inspection service, where required.
- Assist in representing Council in public forums, legal proceedings and appeal hearings, including in the preparation of documentation for submission as requested.
- Prepare reports and submissions to the Building Surveyor and/or Municipal Building Surveyor as requested.
- This role will be required to participate in after hours on-call / availability service and rostered overtime activities.
About you
To be successful in this role you will have knowledge of Government policies and practices and awareness of current trends and issues. You will also have proficient theoretical and practical knowledge and ability to interpret building and associated legislation and practices.
Essential:
- A degree or tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying
- Current registration as a Registered Building Practitioner, Category of Building Inspector issued by the Victorian Building Authority
- Current Victorian Drivers Licence
- Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
