About the role
In this role, you will lead a specialist transport planning team delivering strategic projects, policy development and network coordination initiatives that support safe, sustainable and efficient movement across the municipality. You will provide expert engineering advice, manage complex transport projects and stakeholder relationships, and help shape the future planning and management of the City’s transport network.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and facilitate the delivery of the department's vision by communicating it effectively to lead the unit.
  • Motivate the team to deliver on the strategic goals, by translating and making the goals accessible and relevant to the team members for operational success.
  • Undertake a mentoring/coaching role that shares technical knowledge and experience with respect to transport planning and policy, with other engineers.
  • Develop and deliver the unit’s annual Business Plans in line with the Directorate’s Strategy, balancing value for our community and customers, within financial and resource constraints. 
  • Facilitate a customer first culture in the business unit and proactively problem-solving to innovatively address challenges in delivering services to customers.
  • Develop and implement policy, strategy and plans which relate to the service planning of transport infrastructure and operation of the network.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a tertiary qualification in relevant specialist field(s) and or significant professional experience in a specialist field(s) in a comparable organisation and be a Registered Professional Engineer.

Essential Experience:

  • Demonstrated people management skills to support, influence, and foster a productive team environment.
  • Extensive experience in transport planning and management with a strong knowledge and understanding of the Local Government Act and other binding legislation.
  • Well-developed writing, presentation, and negotiation skills to influence stakeholders and achieve support for objectives.
  • Solid proficiency in successful project, program and contract management, preferably within a civil engineering and/or local government environment
  • Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
