A bit about the role
As an Integrity Officer, you’ll support ethical, transparent, and accountable decision-making as Business Partner to the Building and Planning Service, as well as across the organisation. You’ll provide expert guidance on governance, privacy, and Freedom of Information processes, lead investigations into potential breaches, and champion best-practice policies and training.
This role allows you to collaborate with managers, staff, and external stakeholders to strengthen Council’s integrity, transparency, and compliance frameworks.
What you’ll deliver
- Support managers and staff to make ethical, transparent, and accountable decisions within their delegated authority.
- Conduct and oversee investigations into potential breaches of privacy, governance, or delegated powers, ensuring outcomes are fair and evidence-based.
- Develop, implement, and maintain systems, procedures, and training to promote integrity, transparency, and compliance across Council.
- Ensure timely and accurate responses to Building and Planning Freedom of Information, privacy, and data access requests, maintaining compliance with legislation.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external bodies (e.g., OVIC, IBAC, Local Government Victoria) to maintain high standards of governance and public trust.
What you’ll bring
- Deep understanding of the Local Government Act 2020, Freedom of Information Act, and Privacy & Data Protection Act.
- Practical understanding of planning processes and legislation requirements.
- Experience in undertaking complex investigations, analysing information, and providing well-reasoned recommendations.
- Highly developed ability to research, analyse, and present findings clearly to staff, management, and stakeholders.
- Ability to guide and support staff to make transparent and accountable decisions within their delegated authority.
- Proven skill in building strong relationships with internal teams and key external bodies, ensuring compliance and fostering trust.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check.
