A bit about the role

The Smart City, Innovation and Improvement Team drives innovation, continuous improvement and the strategic implementation of smart city approaches across the City of Casey.

The Smart City Lead provides leadership and technical expertise, by working across the organisation and externally to identify and deliver smart city projects that enhance the quality of life for our community and the environment.

What you’ll deliver

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and execute a smart city program aligned with the City of Casey’s strategic direction. Manage the strategic roadmap, resource allocation, and reporting for efficient implementation and impact measurement.
  • Lead technical smart city projects, policy and process document delivery with focus areas including IoT, 5G, Digital Twins, and other smart city infrastructure with internal and external partners.
  • Develop detailed business cases and financial models, including basic financial modelling to assess the feasibility, profitability, project costs, revenue projections, return on investment (ROI), and other financial metrics.
  • Proactively and positively build relationships and connections that support the Smart Cities Strategy and Program.
  • Provide technical expertise and identify opportunities to communicate and build capability about Smart Cities internally and externally.

What you’ll bring

  • Qualifications in Business/Commerce, Innovation, or Information Technology (preferences include IT networking and security, Computer Science, open data, geospatial).
  • Experience delivering technical projects including 5G, IoT, Digital Twins, open data and smart city infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated agile project management capabilities with strong coordination skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in developing business cases, conducting financial modelling, and assessing return on investment (ROI).
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams to achieve common goals.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check.
  • A curious, collaborative, and inclusive community mindset.
