A bit about the role

Join our Revenue & Rating team as a Debt Project Officer and play a critical role in managing and improving debt recovery strategies for rates and sundry accounts. You’ll help ensure Council meets its financial sustainability goals by supporting targeted debt recovery, compliance with legislation, and delivering clear, professional customer communications.

You’ll also assist with key rating projects like the Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund (ESVF), supporting system integrity and ensuring smooth customer engagement. This role offers the chance to contribute to important financial projects in a collaborative, supportive environment.

What you’ll deliver

  • Develop and implement debt recovery strategies for rates and sundry accounts, monitoring and improving effectiveness.
  • Support the rollout and management of the Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund (ESVF), ensuring accurate processing and customer communication.
  • Respond professionally to complex customer enquiries regarding overdue accounts, payment options, and legal actions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, legal counsel, and external providers to coordinate recovery actions and maintain compliance.
  • Prepare and analyse debt data to identify trends and support informed decision-making.

What you’ll bring

  • Relevant qualification in business, finance, project management, or extensive relevant experience.
  • Experience in Local Government rates, revenue, property, valuations, and customer service (including special rates & Fire Levy/ESVF).
  • Strong understanding of Local Government legislation relevant to rates, revenue, and debt management.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders across all organisational levels.
  • Proven financial management ability, with advocacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills to support effective stakeholder engagement and customer-focused outcomes.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check.
  • A curious, collaborative, and inclusive community mindset.
