A bit about the role
This role involves applying contemporary leadership practices to create and sustain a positive work culture that encourages enthusiasm, commitment to ongoing performance, continuous improvement, and the adoption of best practices in the team.
What you’ll deliver
- Coach, monitor, and manage performance of direct reports, consultants, and contributors to align with Council priorities.
- Encourage and support professional development within the team.
- Oversee and project manage planning applications, ensuring coordination and service standards.
- Prepare or review planning assessments and reports for decision-making and recommendations.
- Administer and determine planning matters under the Council’s Deed of Delegation.
- Prepare appeal and panel submissions, and represent Council at hearings.
- Act as a point of coordination and advice for stakeholders on planning and development processes.
- Process major and complex planning applications with professional judgment and competence.
- Contribute to strategic documents, including planning schemes and urban design frameworks.
- Recommend creative solutions and resolve complex issues through negotiation and mediation.
- Promote a stakeholder management approach to achieve collaborative outcomes
- Encourage team participation in professional development.
What you’ll bring
- Degree or Diploma in Town Planning, Urban Studies or Urban Geography with 5+ years relevant experience.
- Strong communication skills to build and maintain effective internal stakeholder networks and apply influence for good planning outcomes.
- Proven people leadership skills, fostering cohesive, high-performing teams with clear shared goals.
- Customer-focused with excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.)
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check and Eligibility to Work check.
