About the Role
This is no ordinary social researcher role – you will deepen the organisation’s understanding of young people’s experiences and needs, translate evidence into action, and support the development of initiatives that create meaningful impact. Beyond traditional research and evaluation, this role blends strategic influence, advocacy, systems thinking, creative problem‑solving and hands‑on collaboration with young people, the Youth Services team and sector partners.
This position is based at Bunjil place, with regular travel to Council facilities and community spaces.
What You’ll deliver
- Play a key role in transforming how a major municipality understands and responds to the needs of young people, using evidence, creativity, and genuine partnership.
- Lead youth centred system-level social research that supports service design, investment decisions, and long‑term strategic priorities.
- Design and support advocacy campaigns that elevate youth voices and influence internal and external decision‑makers.
- Work across disciplines - planning, community development, health promotion, policy, and youth engagement - to build a stronger, fairer youth system for the wider Casey community.
What You’ll Bring
- Degree or post graduate studies in Youth Services, health promotion, community development, social planning, evaluation or other relevant discipline, or lesser formal qualifications with substantial relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in project delivery, strategy or policy development, preferably with working knowledge of Local, State, and Federal policy and legislative contexts.
- Sound understanding of the social and commercial determinants of youth services and the planning levers that support improved health outcomes.
- Proven experience building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and demonstrated success influencing stakeholders at both the strategic level and operational level.
- Excellent analytical skills to identify risks, challenges, opportunities, and solutions within a complex policy context.
- Experience developing innovative community-based projects or solutions to support enhanced social outcomes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for a variety of audiences
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check
