About the Role
Lead and support contaminated land assessment, management, and remediation in line with environmental legislation, Council frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
Provide technical, planning, and operational support across environmental programs, including data analysis, reporting, stakeholder engagement, and landfill aftercare management.
What You’ll deliver
- Conduct and manage contaminated land assessments — including PSI/DSI investigations, soil/water/asbestos/PFAS testing, environmental risk assessments, and maintaining the contaminated land register.
- Support regulatory compliance and frameworks — implement the Contaminated Land Management Framework, OH&S systems, AMPs, SMOs, EPA waste‑tracking, and prepare planning referral responses and compliance reports.
- Oversee operational programs and projects — supervise field officers and contractors, manage special projects (illegal dumping, landfill monitoring, blue‑green algae), and provide leave coverage for the Senior Technical Officer.
- Collaborate and engage with stakeholders — work closely with EPA, Environmental Auditors, internal departments, consultants, and regulatory authorities, and stay up to date with industry best practice.
- Develop processes and enhance systems — create SOPs, support staff training, assist with annual reporting, and work with data analysts to improve GIS and data management systems.
What You’ll Bring
- Strong understanding of key environmental legislation and guidance, including NEPMs, the Victorian Environment Protection Act 2021, EPA waste categories, Planning Practice Note 30, and industrial/landfill separation guidance.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook), MS Teams, Power BI, Promapp and GIS platforms such as QGIS.
- Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check and Functional Assessment (Medical/physio).
