A bit about the role

We’re looking for a Café Lead who thrives on the floor and leads by example. You’ll work alongside your team during service, build trust through visible leadership, and create an engaged, high performing café team.

You’ll take ownership of rostering and labour management, using data and forecasting to meet operational needs while staying within budget.

You’ll also set the benchmark for operational excellence from coffee quality and POS accuracy to compliance and accountability

What you’ll deliver

  • Inspire, Engage and Deliver Excellence, Every Shift: Lead the day-to-day operations of the café across 7 days, ensuring high standards in customer service and operational efficiency.
  • Build Trust and a Team That Backs You: Supervise, train, and motivate a team of Café Attendants to deliver exceptional service.
  • Cost Control: Ensure efficient ordering, active management of stock levels and wastage, and flexible daily labour rostering to meet business requirements and maintain efficient café operations.
  • Set the Standard for Operational Excellence: Monitor and manage financial performance, including cost of goods sold (COGS) and rostering within budget.
  • Service Excellence: Respond to customer feedback and implement service or menu improvements to enhance the visitor experience.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven leadership experience in managing a professional café or hospitality environment.
  • Relevant qualifications in hospitality (diploma or degree preferred), Food Safety and Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certifications.
  • Advanced First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain.
  • Proven experience in coffee brewing preparation and barista training
  • Availability to work some evenings and weekends is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite of programs
  • Strong commitment to delivering outstanding customer service and team performance.
  • Sound knowledge of stock control, equipment maintenance, and safe kitchen practices.
  • Willingness to undergo pre-employment background checks including National Criminal History Check, Working with Children Check, Eligibility to Work check, Functional Assessment (Medical/physio).
