Systems Engineer (Factory)

Mercedes HPP are seeking two, experienced Systems Engineers to work in our Brixworth Factory. Your core purpose will be to ensure that the Power Unit is operated within defined envelope throughout Virtual Track Tests, carry out test requests efficiently and report results to a high quality, and to maximise the company's learning from these events.

If you're successful in this role, you'll…

  • Monitor and call PU Safety State
  • Provide detailed feedback to Performance, Validation and Product Engineering confirming that the PU is operating within its designated envelope
  • Identify and diagnose issues when this is not the case
  • Work closely with the chassis team, to ensure correct trade-offs between Power Unit and Chassis test items are made
  • Support the performance and usage decisions for a Power Unit by providing data analysis and reports
  • Attend all Virtual Track Test events to operate the Power Unit within reliability limits
  • Are an acknowledged expert in Power Unit operation.

Therefore we need you to…

Be skilled at…

  • Data analysis and interpretation
  • Atlas, System Monitor
  • Dealing with ambiguity, in a pressurised environment
  • Using a structured methodology to identify issues, and creatively problem solve them

Have experience of…

  • Management of PU calibration
  • Technical trouble shooting
  • Desirable:  Running an engine dynamometer or trackside environment
  • Desirable: High performance engines and hybrid systems
  • Desirable: Use of performance analysis tools such as lap simulation.

Demonstrate knowledge of…

  • The operation of the full PU systems and their interaction with the vehicle
  • First engineering principles (advanced) and their application

Hold these qualifications…

  • Degree with 2:1 classification or above in a relevant engineering subject (E.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Physics etc.)


  • Good ability to deal with ambiguity and pressure
  • Flexible - this role involves shift work

  • Data driven with high attention to detail
  • Disciplined, rigorous with procedures

  • Communicative
