The research labs (Aerospace and Ocean Systems, Electronic Systems, and Intelligent Systems) within the Hume Center for National Security and Technology at Virginia Tech are seeking applicants for lab project coordinator positions to provide administrative support for research program execution. These Lab Project Coordinator positions will be based in Blacksburg, VA or Arlington, VA and report to the Director or Senior Program Manager of the research labs to which they are assigned, who have ultimate responsibility for successful program development and execution. The Lab Project Coordinator position requires access to ITAR and DFAR restricted information; offer of employment requires US citizenship.
Duties and Responsibilities;
The Lab Project Coordinator is responsible for supporting research lab faculty, program managers, and researchers in the execution of programs focused in a variety of technical fields, including machine learning and artificial intelligence, assured and secure communications, cybersecurity, space and undersea missions, and 5G security. These programs are funded by a variety of defense and intelligence science and technology (S&T) organizations in the government and industry. The Lab Project Coordinator will support growth initiatives and contribute to the day-to-day programmatic, administrative, budgetary, and contractual aspects of sponsored research programs, in support of principal investigators who are responsible for both the development and execution of research programs. The Lab Project Coordinator will also support proposal efforts for new research program opportunities; support program personnel loading, program risk tracking, and program expenditures; and support logistical planning and outreach activities within the lab to include student engagement.
This position is suited for early career applicants with project management experience and/or prior administrative experience.
Bachelor's degree in a related technical or professional field or a lesser degree and significant relevant experience.
Good communication skills, with proactive willingness to engage faculty members and students face-to-face.
Ability to work as a member of a team in developing future projects and engaging customers.
Capability to take on broad tasks, identify the steps necessary to execute them, ensure their proper execution, and succinctly convey their results
Experience working in and/or with the Department of Defense and Intelligence Community or related industry partners.
Experience supporting federally funded research programs.
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Experience working in academic research environment.
Prior experience working with graphics design tools such as Adobe Illustrator
Range of $40,000 - $50,000, Determined salary will be commensurate with experience. Pay band 4 Position.
