Job Description

The Postdoctoral Researcher will help develop a nationally and internationally recognized and extramurally funded multidisciplinary research program focusing on animal cell culture optimization with an emphasis on seafood. The position will also develop and maintain working relationships with key stakeholders. The Postdoctoral Researcher will also work collaboratively with other researchers and will supervise students as well. The position will be located at the VSAREC in Hampton, Virginia, with programmatic linkages in the departments of Food Science and Technology (FST), and Chemical Engineering, at Virginia Tech.

Required Qualifications

A Doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field awarded no more than four years from initial date of postdoctoral appointment is required. Significant research experience in cell culture, molecular biology, machine learning, and strong written and oral communication skills with ability to develop manuscripts, and assist in preparation of grant proposals and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

Exposure to academic, industrial, startup, and venture environment, experience in working on a multi-disciplinary research project with a proven track record of publications and grant writings, self-motivated, and team player. Working experience in designing bioreactors, microbiome, GI digestion models is desirable.
A priority for this position is generating extramural funding support for the research position, graduate student training, and research- and outreach-related activities. The position is expected to help obtain extramural funding to support the program, and serve on graduate student committees.
