Job Description

Reporting to the Electric Service Manager, the Powerline Lead Worker supervises, and maintains, installs, troubleshoots, and repairs both high and low voltage electric distribution systems as required. Performs other activities including substation construction, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance, including; load tap changer maintenance, station breaker installation and maintenance, bus installation and maintenance, and transformer installation and maintenance. Performs transformer and main line fuse replacement as required. Utilizes hot work equipment and tools. Operates excavator, backhoe, trencher, line/service trucks, fork trucks, horizontal boring machine and other equipment for electrical system installation and maintenance. Supervises and installs and maintains both underground and overhead electrical systems. Place and remove grounds on deenergized systems as required. Test equipment used includes multimeters, phase meter, high voltage sticks, and meggers.

Required Qualifications

High School diploma or GED. | Considerable previous electrical distribution experience. | Knowledge and experience of primary and secondary power distribution equipment. | Experience operating line/bucket trucks, tension rigs. | Experience climbing poles using climbing equipment. | Experience performing work on energized and deenergized single and three phase overhead and underground circuits. | Knowledge and experience of transformer bank connections. | Knowledge and experience using required personal protective equipment. | Must have valid driver's license with good driving record.| Must have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or higher. | Must possess and maintain a DOT medical certification.| Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing 50 pounds or more; climb and work from elevated work stations such as ladders, boom trucks, and scaffolds; work for long periods of time standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending and pushing/pulling. | Ability to work in all types of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. | This position is designated as GÇ£Emergency PersonnelGÇ¥. Must be available as situations warrant for response to after hours and weekend calls.

Preferred Qualifications

Successful completion of accredited journeyman program or similar experience. | Significant years of overall electrical experience. | Considerable experience in the operation and maintenance of distribution substations.| Safety training including the following:|aerial lift observation boom truck, aerial lift, chain saw safety, confined space awareness, confined space entry/attendant supervisor, electrical qualified person, excavation qualified person, fall hazard awareness, fall protection user, first aid/CPR/AED, hazcom RTK, hearing conservation, hot line hold tags, ladder safety, lockout/tagout authorized person, mobile crane safety, personal protective equipment training, portable fire extinguisher training, powered industrial truck observation, powered industrial truck training, reverse signal operation safety, scaffold awareness, VDOT flagger training and certification, and VDOT work zone basic safety training.
