A part-time Research Assistant is being sought to support multiple NIH-funded projects in the labs of Dr. Pearl Chiu (lab information) and Dr. Brooks King-Casas (lab information) at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion in Roanoke, Virginia. Projects in the labs are highly interdisciplinary and combine methods from experimental and clinical psychology, neuroscience, and behavioral economics with functional neuroimaging and in vivo electrochemistry to investigate brain function in healthy and psychiatric populations. Current projects include both cross-sectional and interventional studies with a focus on major depressive disorder, borderline personality disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder, substance-use disorders and at-risk youth. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented person who enjoys interacting with others, being a key part of a diverse and active scientific environment, working with individuals with varied mental health difficulties, and managing multiple project duties. The successful candidate/s is/are expected to engage with culturally diverse populations in higher education, integrate evidence-based and inclusive pedagogical technologies is beneficial but not required. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to gain research experience in clinical psychology, neuroeconomics, and cognitive/social/decision neuroscience as preparation for graduate school or medical school.

Prior research experience in psychology, neuroscience or a related field is preferred, but not required.
• B.S. in Neuroscience, Biology, Chemistry, public health or a related field with an emphasis on laboratory experience, or equivalent education, training and experience.
• Working experience in an academic/research setting.
