The Mission Systems Division of the Virginia Tech National Security Institute invites applications for a postdoctoral associate position in Hypersonic Aerodynamics. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and advancing new models and simulations for Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) hypersonic codes. Specific tasks include developing new turbulence and transition models for compressible hypersonic flows; implementing new models and numerical schemes into larger, existing hypersonic CFD codebases; performing verification & validation studies for the new models; generating CFD datasets using new models for specific applications. This position is based at Virginia Tech's main campus in Blacksburg, VA and offers opportunities for teaching and service-related activities, if desired, to successful candidates.

• Ph.D. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. PhD must be awarded no more than four years prior to the effective date of appointment with a minimum of one year eligibility remaining.
• US Citizenship
• Demonstrated expertise in CFD for Hypersonic flows
• Deep knowledge of aerothermodynamics of hypersonic flows, compressible flows, and mechanics of turbulence
• Proficiency in High Performance Computing & Linux
• A proven track record of peer-reviewed publications
• Experience with US3D CFD software
• Experience developing numerical CFD methods for integration into larger CFD codes
• Background in turbulence and transition modeling for CFD
• Strong communication skills
• Experience mentoring graduate or undergraduate students
Exempt: Not eligible for overtime
Starting at $70,000; commensurate with experience
