Job Description

The Focused Ultrasound (FUS) Technical Facilities Manager will be responsible for setting up and managing the INSIGHTEC Exablate Neuro V2 Focused Ultrasound system at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute on the Health Sciences and Technology campus in Roanoke. The FUS Technical Facilities Manager will work closely with FBRI faculty, research staff, graduate students, clinicians, surgeons, and others who may utilize the facility, provide support, primarily through daily managing and operating the instrument. In human clinical research, this role will assist the clinician or surgeon to operate the instrument. In other research projects, the FUS Manager needs to take the related training, consult with researchers to design studies, and operate the instrument for the researchers and/or train their personnel. The FUS Technical Facilities Manager will also engage in introducing this new technique to the researchers, surgeons and students, who may be interested in it. Specifically, this person will engage in the development of new protocols, training of faculty, students, and staff on the use of the instrument, consulting with researchers to design and execute studies, and assist with analysis of MR/FUS data, including serving as a co-author on publications as key personnel on faculty research grants that utilize this technology. The FUS Technical Facilities Manager will follow appropriate protocols, policies and procedures of the institute.
The FUS Manager will serve as a liaison with the FUS manufacturer and FBRI. Focused ultrasound will be guided by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), so the FUS Technical Facilities Manager should be able to work in a magnetic field (3T).

Required Qualifications

•BS or MS in a field related to biomedical Technical Facilities Managering, medical imaging, MRI physics, ultrasound imaging/physics, medicine or other Technical Facilities Managerings;
•Ph.D. in the related fields is preferred;
•Have 1+ years of ultrasound-related experience. Demonstrated experience working on MR-guided ultrasound-related projects;
•Deep understanding of ultrasound treatment and MR imaging, MRI physics, medical imaging, MR image reconstruction, ultrasound physics, ultrasound-tissue interaction;
•Able to work in a magnetic field (3T).
