Job Description

A part-time research assistant being is sought for the lab of Dr. Sora Shin at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion (https://fbri.vtc.vt.edu/people-directory/primary-faculty/shin.html). This role will independently support research projects and oversee all research activities in the Shin lab. This position involves some management duties, such as supply ordering and management, and research duties. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and detail-oriented person who enjoys interacting with others, being a key part of a diverse and active scientific environment, learning new techniques, and managing multiple project duties. This position will provide an excellent opportunity to gain research experience in neuroscience and medical science as preparation for graduate school or medical school.

Required Qualifications

Required qualifications:
• Prior research experience in biology, neuroscience or a related field is preferred, but not required.
• Prior experience in animal (rodent) handling, brain anatomy research, basic molecular works (e.g., immunostaining) is highly preferred.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Demonstrate solid detail orientation skills
• Capable of working independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications:
• B.S. in Neuroscience, Biology or a related field with an emphasis on laboratory experience, or equivalent education, training and experience.
• Working experience in an academic/research setting.
