The Department of Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise (HNFE) (http://hnfe.vt.edu) invites applications for a calendar year, non-tenure-track collegiate faculty position at the assistant professor level. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in nutrition or a closely related field, and a minimum of three years’ experience in dietetics practice. The Registered Dietitian (RD)/Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) credential is preferred. Collegiate faculty members have a primary commitment to the instructional mission of the department, including graduate and undergraduate teaching, curricular and program development, and the design and integration of innovative and inclusive pedagogy, including experiential learning. Successful candidates should provide evidence of potential to take a lead role in enhancing curricula and promoting teaching excellence for the Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (MSND) program (https://www.hnfe.vt.edu/graduate/MSnutrition.html), as well as other HNFE academic programs. Candidates are also expected to participate in department and university service activities, including but not limited to, committee service and community outreach.
The position’s responsibilities are anticipated to be 70% instruction, 20% pedagogical scholarship, and 10% service, to include:
● Instruction for multiple MSND and HNFE in-classroom and online courses (3 to 4 courses per semester)
● Participation in curricular innovation and transformation
● Engagement in the scholarship of teaching and learning in HNFE
● Mentorship of students from diverse backgrounds and identities
● Continuing development of professional capabilities and scholarly activities, including travel to professional conferences; participation in department, college, and university governance; and professional service
● Enhancing experiential learning opportunities (i.e., supervised practice) for dietetics students in HNFE
● Providing backup for HNFE courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels
Doctoral degree in Nutrition (or a closely related field); Minimum of three years of experience in professional practice, which includes community, foodservice management, sustainability, extension, agriculture, industry, education or a related area; Demonstrated experience instructing a broad scope of nutrition and nutrition-related courses; Demonstrated scholarship and/or leadership (e.g., publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at professional meetings, invited presentations, professional leadership roles, etc.); Experience in higher education instructional and pedagogical activities, with strong potential for being a leader in the instructional mission; Excellent oral and written communication skills
RD/RDN credential; Experience in online instruction; Experience with accredited academic or healthcare programs; Demonstrated mentorship of nutrition and dietetics or other healthcare students
