Job Description

A Natural Resource Specialist III (Field Biologist) fulltime (40hours/week) classified staff position is available with the Virginia Tech Conservation Management Institute to support a variety of ongoing research and management projects at Fort AP Hill (FAPH), Virginia. The position will be located at US Army Garrison Fort AP Hill Virginia near Bowling Green, Virginia.

Required Qualifications

1) Demonstrated experience in the identification of various flora and faunal species including but not limited to birds, insects, herpetofauna, and mammals in the in the field and lab within an ecological sampling system. 2) Demonstrated experience in performing field biological/ecological data collection for both flora and fauna. 3) Experience navigating over rough terrain using topography maps, GPS and compass and must be willing to work in adverse weather and field conditions. 4) Ability to pass background checks required to work on military installations required. 5) Experience with Global Positioning Systems and ESRI based GIS software required. 6) Ability to perform basic statistical summaries of field data and report findings. 7) Valid Drivers License required.

Preferred Qualifications

1) A B.S. in Botany, Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Sciences, Forestry, Environmental Science or related field.
2) Previous experience working on military installations.
