The Farris lab (http://labs.vtc.vt.edu/farris/) at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute (FBRI https://research.vtc.vt.edu/) focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying learning and memory. We are currently investigating area CA2 of the hippocampus, a subregion essential for social memory. Using a combination of mouse genetics to manipulate specific hippocampal cell-types and advanced, high-resolution imaging techniques, we hope to provide mechanistic insight on the behaviorally-induced synaptic modifications in CA2 that may be required for encoding social behavior.
The Farris lab is recruiting a full-time Research Associate that will be responsible for performing molecular and cellular neurobiology experiments, including rodent intrahippocampal infusion surgeries, maintaining the mouse colony and genotyping, and assisting with lab-related administrative tasks, such as ordering lab supplies and maintaining lab equipment. The successful applicant will also be expected to participate in lab meetings, analyze data, and assist in the preparation of figures for peer-reviewed publication and presentations. The successful applicant will be expected to work both individually and as part of a team. This position is for a minimum of two years commitment.
