Job Description

We’re currently searching for a Lead Housekeeping Worker to join our Student Engagement and Camus Life (SECL) team in Blacksburg, VA to help us in our mission. So, if you are passionate about providing outstanding, innovative experiences for our 30,000+ students, please keep reading.

Here’s what you need to know about the role:

1) You’ll join the Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) team: a department centered on uplifting the student experience by cultivating affirming environments, promoting holistic well-being, and providing exceptional services, programs, and facilities.

2) You’ll report to the Housekeeping Manager, in a Regular full-time, 100% staff appointment. 

3) You’ll be responsible for attending to housekeeping needs that are both routine and non-routine to achieve a high level of sanitation, cleanliness, and aesthetic appearance of all assigned areas within the SECL portfolio. Additional work includes acting as a liaison between upper management and housekeeper workers. Assume supervisor duties in his/her/their absence and assist housekeeping supervisor by leading and directing housekeeping workers in the performance of their duties. Assist in the setup and strikes of event equipment for regularly scheduled events in the student center facilities as needed.

5) You’ll be offered a base compensation package between $32,500-$35,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package which includes health insurance, paid leave, retirement, tuition assistance, VT discounts, and so much more!

Required Qualifications

- Excellent customer service and communication skills for interaction with employees, students, and visitors at a large university campus.
- Knowledge of commercial/industrial cleaning methods, techniques, equipment, and chemicals.
- Ability to follow instructions, walk extensively, climb stairs and step ladders, independently and safely move and handle up to 50 lbs., to push/pull 75 lbs., shovel snow, and safely and efficiently operate electrical powered and manual cleaning equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to direct and lead the work of others, and make independent decisions and judgments in the absence of the supervisor.
- Emergency Personnel position requiring employees to report to work during emergencies and closings.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in cleaning of institutional, domestic, or commercial areas.
- Supervision experience and knowledge of OSHA regulations.
- Basic computer skills preferred.
