Job Description

The Human Resources Generalist serves at a professional level within a dynamic team of HR professionals supporting the faculty and staff of the provost office. The Provost Office is unique in design as it serves both academic faculty as well as students, in programming and support. This position provides functional HR support to the EVP and Provost office division in the areas of talent acquisition, talent development, talent management, policy compliance and general HR administrative responsibilities in a complex division of the university. The position serves as the HR transactional lead while also serving as a strategic HR partner.

A successful candidate for the HR Generalist role will possess skills:
• Coordinate, coach, and execute HR activities in the functional areas of recruitment and selection, classification and compensation, employee relations, performance management, audit and compliance.
• Develop methods and procedures for compiling and analyzing data for reports and special projects as needed.
• Thrive as a team player in a supportive environment while also enjoying to work independently.
• Able to foster a positive and inclusive work community, building trusting partnerships and supporting the implementation of diversity related initiatives.
• Knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
• Experienced handling sensitive /confidential information with discretion.
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate in a professional and courteous manner; interact respectfully and comfortably in a diverse and multicultural environment.
• Demonstrate the ability to organize and prioritize a variety of competing demands while meeting established deadlines.

This position is located in Blacksburg, VA and eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The HR Generalist reports to the Human Resources Division Director for the EVP and Provost Office.

Required Qualifications

- Advanced Degree in Human Resources or other business-related field, or bachelors with significant related professional experience.
-Previous experience providing HR support (as HR Assistant or HR Coordinator).
-Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects and day-to-day operations independently.
-Experience independently developing, implementing, and maintaining accurate, auditable, and secure human resources records.
- Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience and interest in HR data gathering and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

- Professional HR certification such as PHR, SPHR, CCP, etc.
-HR experience in a college or university setting.
-Preferred experience with Banner and PageUp.
