Job Description

The Program Coordinator for the Global Change Center (GCC) will provide support to meet the diverse programmatic, communications, and event management needs of the GCC, a Center within the Fralin Life Sciences Institute (FLSI). The GCC Coordinator works closely with the Center's director, staff and FLSI executive leadership team, as well as the various FLSI administrative units to operate all aspects of the Center. The GCC coordinator is also expected to have frequent interactions with faculty, students, other administrators, event service providers, and visiting scholars. Primary responsibilities of the GCC Coordinator include administrative management of the center and overall coordination of daily activities in support of the Center’s success.

The GCC supports the research of nearly 100 faculty from more than 20 departments, a vibrant campus-wide interdisciplinary Ph.D. program of about 70 students, a variety of undergraduate experiential learning programs, and several strategic partnerships that create novel opportunities for faculty and students and promote a diverse and inclusive research community. The Center is a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

Required Qualifications

-Bachelor's degree in business management, communications, or STEM field related to global change or demonstrated significant experience in lieu of degree
-Experience providing administrative or programmatic support in an academic or professional office environment
-Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite; Google Suite; social media
-Excellent time management and organizational skills
-Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience with program or project management in a professional setting
-Experience with scientific communication or related communication focus
-Experience managing budgets, including purchasing and invoicing
-Demonstrated experience with event planning such as schedule coordination, catering, venue selection
-Experience working with academic faculty and students, particularly scientists and engineers
-Experience working with diverse staff and stakeholders
