Community Practice is the Small Animal Primary Care Service at the College of Veterinary Medicine, providing full-service, outpatient preventive health, dental, and surgical care to local small animal clients. We pride ourselves on low stress handling of patients. You will play a crucial role in helping to educate our future veterinarians. Working alongside Board Certified clinicians, residents, interns, LVTs, and students, you will help our patients with every aspect of their care.

Utilizing your invaluable technical skills to help teach the next generation of veterinarians through engagement in:
• New puppy/kitten visits (vaccines, microchips, parasite treatment and prevention, client education)
• General health care (venipuncture, cystocentesis, lab tests, ear cleanings, skin scrapes, FNAs, nail trims)
• Dentistry (State-of-the-art dental radiography, oral blocks, surgeries/extractions/root canals, prophys)
• Anesthesia and surgery (laparoscopic spays, gastropexies, neuters, lumpectomies, soft tissue and orthopedic procedures)
• Fear free and low stress handling
• Holistic procedures (Acupuncture, laser therapy, ultrasound therapies)
• Emergencies/urgent care (catheter placements, ECG, capnography, fluids, O2 cage, pharmaceuticals)

Required Qualifications

Previous experience in a veterinary clinical setting; working knowledge of basic companion animal anatomy and physiology gained as a result of coursework or experience; ability to understand instructions; ability to handle and restrain all species of animal; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; rabies prophylaxis will be required (provided by employer)

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications: Licensed or licensed eligible in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Veterinary Technician (LVT).
