Job Description

In the Munson Lab, we study the tumor microenvironment in cancers, including glioblastoma, the deadliest form of brain cancer. Our research focuses on the emerging research area of fluid flow. Cancer’s invasion of the brain follows distinctive routes that correlate with interstitial and bulk flow pathways. In brain cancer, fluid flow increases between cells within the tissue, specifically across the invasive edge of the tumor where cells are prone to both interact with the surrounding brain tissue and to evade localized, transport-limited therapies.

A part time research coordinator is sought for the lab of Dr. Jenny Munson at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion. The Munson lab is an interdisciplinary research group of engineers and biologists that study the impact of fluid flow in various pathologic conditions including brain and breast cancer and Alzheimer’s Disease. We use a range of tools and techniques to model biological processes. We work with collaborators all over the world and clinicians that have direct impact on patient treatment. In addition to our research, we are actively engaged with the surrounding community through outreach programs. We seek a qualified candidate with experience in outreach, community engagement, and program building to further develop, organize, and implement our outreach activities, mentorship programs, and training activities to promote an inclusive environment.
