Job Description

Virginia Tech is looking for a talented event and outreach rockstar excited by the challenge of creating innovative and out-of-the-box experiences to engage alumni in companies, celebrate C-suite VIPs through story-telling and event participation, and showcase the university’s world-class research through large-scale industry events.

The Associate Director of Alumni and Corporate Engagement for the Innovation and Partnership team is responsible for leading the strategic activities and outreach within the unit and across divisions to advance Virginia Tech's ambitious goals by engaging alumni and growing industry partnerships.

The innovation and Partnership team assembles around ambitious projects and aspirations come to life through our three integral centers: LINK, LICENSE, and LAUNCH. As a team, we proudly activate alumni relationships, nurture partnerships, secure investment opportunities, and ensure that discoveries made at the university deliver economic and human impact, and are jointly funded between Advancement and the Office of Research and Innovation.

The Associate Director of Alumni and Corporate Engagement sets the strategy and leads implementation across engagement and outreach platforms as the front-end of the engagement/partnership funnel. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Engagement and Partnerships, this individual serves as a senior leader on the Experiences and Impact team, leading programming and outreach that are key to the unit’s success. This position is responsible for piloting new efforts, measuring and implementing successful engagement strategies, tracking performance against specified goals and deadlines, and ongoing stewardship and communication to key alumni, corporate partners, executive champions, and internal stakeholders.

Engagement platforms include a full range of events and experiences, such as in-person and virtual engagements, corporate visits, and large-scale industry activities. This position is responsible for establishing the strategy for each, working with teams and consultants to define, mobilize, and build, and ensuring successful execution. In the aggregate and individually, the activities support key goals of Advancement, ORI, and the university and include expanding research-based partnerships, connections to executives and champions, broad reach to alumni around topics of their professions/work, fundraising, participation goals, and brand building.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and demonstrated experience in alumni relations, corporate relations, career services, communications, or equivalent experience in a nonprofit institution or industry.

Candidate must possess strong strategic skills and a data-driven approach to launch new activities and track and measure progress.

He/she should have excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills to support storytelling and engagement among the many VIP individuals.

He/she should have demonstrated a record of organizational, management, and interpersonal skills, with a high level of professionalism to engage C-suite and VP-level executives as well as broad base of alumni working within corporations.

Strong project management skills and ability to deliver on multiple projects in a fast-paced, team environment.

Must have the ability to work closely and effectively with university administrators, faculty, corporate partners, and vendors to develop effective strategies for planning events, developing sponsorships, and offering quality services to alumni.

Demonstrated effective teamwork, leadership, process management, strategic development, and negotiating skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree.

Significant experience with executing high-quality events and outreach to strategic corporate partners and alumni.
