Job Description

The Virginia Tech School of Neuroscience Graduate Program seeks an enthusiastic Graduate Program Coordinator to join our administrative staff. Our program is seeking someone committed to our students' successful academic progress while supporting faculty as they train student researchers.

Reporting to the Graduate Program Director, this person will work closely with the Director to contribute to the curriculum and daily operations of the program. They will play a critical role in graduate student success through communication, program administration, recruitment, and event planning. The staff member will support students’ professional development needs, celebrate the accomplishments of the school’s students and faculty, maintain strong alumni connections after students graduate, and focus on building out and up.

A successful Graduate Program Coordinator:
Will have a proven track record managing multiple projects and tasks simultaneously with success.
 
Excellent time management and organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and a self-motived work ethic will be needed to handle completing duties and deadlines as they arise.
 
Will have demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a highly collaborative and supportive team. This position will work closely with the administrative team, faculty and graduate students.
 
Is an effective communicator. Professional and written communication are crucial in the daily responsibilities of this positions.
 
Is energized by a dynamic environment. This position will work with multiple stakeholders at both the college and university level. Staying informed about the changing guidelines and procedures for graduate recruitment and assistantships are crucial to this position.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: submission and verification of student milestones such as plans of study, preliminary exams, and dissertation defense; scheduling classes and remote learning set up; management of learning management systems such as Canvas, Banner, Zoom, etc.; purchasing and processing of supplies, orders, and reimbursements; supporting Neuroscience faculty with grade calculations, grade entries, and evaluations surveys; actively engaging in recruitment activities to attract top student talent to the program; work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure programmatic success.

Required or Minimum Qualifications

An applicant much have these qualifications in order to be interviewed.

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Experience using large enterprise systems for finance, curriculum scheduling, procurement, etc....(Slate, HokieMart, Student Banner, and Finance Banner are common at Virginia Tech but other relevant  experience welcomed as well

Preferred Qualifications

These qualifications are preferred but not required.

  • Previous experience in higher educations or research environment
  • Experience conducting and reporting evaluation and assessment in educational research contexts
  • Prior purchasing and reconciliation experience for a professional development area
  • Experience or familiarity with using university-wide communications resources as well as Canva and other tools
  • Ability to formulate materials and resources that supplement, expand, or highlight existing program component

$42,000 - $47,000
