Job Description

The Public Safety Division at Virginia Tech is comprised of the Police Department, Environmental Health & Safety, and the Office of Emergency Management and has a critical role in supporting the well-being of our community. We are essential in planning for and responding to emergency events, and in creating a culture of preparedness where employees and students are safe in their work and living environments.

The EHS Training Manager provides strategic direction for the development, provision, and maintenance of training provided by Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) for the entire university. Reporting to the EHS Executive Director, the Training Manager leads a team of 3 team members (AP faculty) to prioritize and deliver training, assure compliance with EHS and university standards, provide technical support for the EHS Learning Management System (LMS), and support training development by other EHS staff following the principles of andragogy. In addition, the Training Manager anticipates and plans for upcoming in-person training to meet university community needs based on training expirations and identified needs of clients and assures an adequate number of classes are scheduled to meet this forecasted demand. The Training Manager also works directly with other departments to help them identify unique training opportunities applicable to their work scope and activities, incorporate EHS training into the departmental curriculums, or the development of stand-alone EHS courses specific to the hazard exposure of their students in their field of study. The Training Manager works with various internal groups to continually evaluate and improve the effectiveness of all training programs, and to strategically plan and prioritize the development of new training offerings.
